The Szekula Family of Stamp Dealers

This website is dedicated to the Hungarian born stamp dealers Béla, Géza, Eugen and Frank Szekula. Each one of them ran his own stamp business with emphasis on international stamp trade, most likely driven by money rather than the love of stamps. All four assumed Swiss nationality and were at one time based in Lucerne. Especially Béla’s creative business ideas provoked more than one philatelic scandal during his career. However, the history of philately would arguably be poorer without the Szekula brothers.

A. Koch

Announcement
Oberländer Tagblatt November 22, 1956
Antonia (Sacher) Koch ran her stamp business in Lucerne from November 1933 until March 1959, but old address book entries show that she was already dealing with stamps as early as 1925 (as Antonia Sacher). At first at Winkelriedstr. 58 she moved to Löwenstr. 3 in July 1936. When she sold her business after more than 25 years, it had existed longer than any of the Sekula brothers’ stamp businesses in Lucerne.
A. Koch is included here because of the great similarity of her envelopes with those of Eugen Sekula as well as the similarity of the reminder postcards which suggests a closer relationship – possibly in the form of a commercial apprenticeship she completed with him.
